What is a Career for the Common Good?

Careers for the Common Good (CCG) are socially responsible vocations, whose results benefit the greater good of society. Careers for the common good generally occur in the nonprofit and government sectors and tend to include an individuals personal core values. The CCG program at the University of Connecticut, a collaboration between Career Services, the Office of Community Outreach and the Human Rights Institute, provides resources and encourages students to explore career paths that positively affect the community and society at large. CCG includes an extensive web resource list that is separated into five categories: Post-Graduate Experiences, Career & Job, Graduate School, Professional Development and Civic Engagement.

1Bloc's goal is to provide information and opportunities in social enterprise and sustainability. 1Bloc focuses on jobs and internships in social enterprises, information on companies, and providing information to tons of young people interested in driving social change through their career.

Arizona State University - School of Justice & Social Inquiry

The School of Justice & Social Inquiry is concerned with the empirical study of justice and injustice in contemporary societies. We are interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary, with a tradition of strong ties with other units in law, the social sciences and humanities.

Brainbridge Graduate Institute

Brandeis University - The Heller School for Socail Policy and Management

Since its founding as Brandeis University's first professional school in 1959, The Heller School has been committed to developing new knowledge and insights in the field of social policy and in health and human services management. As a graduate school and research institution, The Heller School has pioneered in a variety of policy areas including health; mental health; substance abuse; children, youth, and families; aging; international and community development; mental retardation and developmental disabilities; poverty and hunger; and work and inequalities. Derechos Human Rights

Derechos Human Rights works for the respect and promotion of human rights throughout the world. Our work includes the socialization of human rights related information and analysis through the internet and other media, the promotion of prosecutions of human rights violators and the support of local human rights NGOs and activists. Graduate Guide

Established in 1970, Graduate School Guide is a convenient reference tool for college students to quickly locate schools offering the programs they want. More than 1,000 colleges and universities use Graduate School Guide to help their students with a genuine interest in postgraduate study. QUICK FACTS: What’s in a Graduate School Guide? Listings for colleges and universities that offer a Masters, Doctoral or Professional Degree Program; Information includes course offerings, tuition, graduate admissions contact, email and web addresses; Comprehensive Financial Aid info including tuition tax credits, grants, loans and work study; Cross reference section of majors; Graduate Test Dates; Student Response Cards.

Idealist

Action Without Borders connects people, organizations, and resources to help build a world where all people can live free and dignified lives. Action Without Borders is independent of any government, political ideology, or religious creed. Idealist.org includes: job, volunteer and internship search engines; opportunities to join online communities and participate in online message boards; resources for volunteering, careers and nonprofits; information about graduate school fairs, non profit fairs and international service opportunities. Also has an Idealist on Campus resources connecting students and administrators on college campuses.

Kansas State University - College of Architecture Planning & Design -

The Master of Regional and Community Planning (MRCP) is internationally recognized for its approach to rural, small town, and community based planning, design, development, and preservation. Students may choose an area of specialization in Community Planning and Development, Regional Resource Planning and Management, or create an area of specialization unique to individual interests. The Master of Arts in Environmental Planning and Management (MA) is attractive to individuals seeking an advanced degree while continuing to work professionally, and for those who seek continuing education in the current skills and knowledge of planning.

Nonprofit Academic Centers Council (NACC)

The Nonprofit Academic Centers Council (NACC) is a membership association comprised of academic centers or programs at accredited colleges and universities that focus on the study of nonprofit organizations, voluntarism and/or philanthropy. Established in 1991, NACC is the first group entirely dedicated to the promotion and networking of centers that provide research and education in philanthropy and the nonprofit sector. Peace Corps Grad School Options

Peace Corps or graduate school? Two unique programs offer the best of both worlds. Peace Corps has established partnerships with colleges and universities across the United States that offer academic credit and financial incentives to Volunteers during or after Peace Corps service. Master's International allows you to incorporate Peace Corps service into a master's degree program at more than 40 colleges and universities. And our Fellows/USA program offers returned Volunteers scholarships or reduced tuition at more than 30 participating schools.
