What does Career Services do for students?

We help students through the career decision-making process, beginning with their first year here at UConn. Students may need assistance with choosing a major, defining a career path, and/or gaining experience in their chosen career field. We help with all of these issues.

How does Career Services provide the services for students?

Walk-in appointments, assessment instruments, and experiential education referrals are a few of our tools.

How do students get started?

Visit Career Services during our walk in hours. We're located in the Center for Undergraduate Education (CUE 217).

Who are the individuals available to help students?

We are professionals trained in career consulting methods and processes. All consultants hold Master's degrees in areas relevant to career counseling.

What Can I Do With This Major/Degree?

Here at Career Services, we have put our heads together to create a practical guide to majors and careers. One of our widely used resources is the "What Can I Do With This Major/Degree?" feature on our web site.

Career Resource Library

At a glance, the Career Resource Library provides students and alumni with the following resources: Career Information; Interviewing/Job Search Resources; Part-Time, Internship, Summer, and Full-time Job Listings; and Graduate School Information.

If you are interested in "information gathering" and career exploration, you will be most interested in the CRL's Careers and Opportunities guides. These books describe actual jobs and the training/education/skills required to succeed in these careers. Some examples include: Careers in Biotechnology, Opportunities in Robotics, Careers for Nature Lovers, Opportunities in Counseling & Development, and many others.

The CRL's employer directories allow students and alumni to identify employers in a given industry. For example, a directory might list all Human Services employers in Connecticut, or all High Tech companies in New England. These directories also include information about each company, such as what products are manufactured, what service is provided, the size of the company, subsidiary information, where the company is located, etc.

The Career Library is located in the Department of Career Services, CUE 217. The library contains over 500 resources. If you seek information, you can now search our catalog to see if resources are available. Search by keyword (i.e forensic), search by title, or search by author. Keyword is the best tool to use when you want information about a specific topic. If your search is successful, you will see a "topic code number" which appears on the spine of the book. Find that number and book on the shelf, or ask for assistance.

The Career Library catalogue is available online as well.
