On-Campus Interviews
The On Campus Recruiting program at the University of Connecticut provides students (both undergraduate and graduate) an opportunity to interview with hiring companies for full-time permanent, internship, and co-op positions. Most interviews take place on campus in the Department of Career Services. The program runs during both the Fall and Spring semesters, and individuals wishing to participate can begin the process at any time during the academic year. Doctoral candidates are eligible to participate in on-campus interviews, but are encouraged to speak with a career consultant about other job searching strategies.
Participating in On-Campus Interviews
Each semester, several employers will come to campus to interview students for full-time permanent, internship, and co-op opportunities. Students interested in a chance to interview with these companies must take the following steps:
Step 1
- Register with HuskyCareerLink. All students wishing to participate in on-campus interviews are REQUIRED to register in HuskyCareerLink, our web based recruiting system. Registration takes only a few minutes, and consists of providing current contact information and academic information.
Step 2
- Upload a copy of your most current resume onto HuskyCareerLink. This is required in order for students to be able to apply for positions posted in the system. If you have not yet had your resume reviewed by Career Services, resume critiques are available in our office daily, on a walk-in basis.
Step 3
- Search for and apply for jobs. All employers interviewing on campus will have one or more positions posted in HuskyCareerLink. Students should utilize the system to search for opportunities and submit a resume if they wish to be considered for an interview. IMPORTANT: these positions will have firm application deadline dates based on the date of an employer's visit. Please read the Recruiting Schedule and each individual job description carefully.
Step 4
- Check your HuskyCareerLink account and your email regularly. Students who have submitted a resume to be considered for an on-campus interview will be notified via email if they have been selected to interview. There will also be a change in your interviewing status within the "applications" section of your HuskyCareerLink account. Check both often in order to be notified of your interviewing status.
Step 5
- Sign up for an interview time electronically. Students who have been granted an interview will have a 4-6 day interview sign-up period, during which you are required to go into HuskyCareerLink and select an interview time. IMPORTANT: If you do not select an interview time during the designated sign-up period, the employer reserves the right to fill any open slot with another candidate. Please be diligent.
Step 6
- Prepare for the interview. Attend any information sessions offered by employers conducting interviews on campus, in order to learn more about the company and network with recruiters. Practice your interviewing skills by participating in a mock interview, available by appointment in the Career Services office.
Step 7
- Arrive for your interview at least 10-15 minutes early. It is important to be prompt for your interview; it is as much a part of the interview itself as the questions you ask and the answers you provide.
Preparing for an Interview
Information Sessions:
- Many companies who plan to conduct interviews on campus will schedule pre-interview presentations as a means of providing information about their organizations and the positions available. Some bring UConn alumni currently employed by the company to talk about their experience. These information sessions are very important opportunities for candidates to gain information and meet the recruiters with whom they will interview. If you are interviewing with an organization who is hosting an information session, please make sure to attend. Session locations and dates/times are posted in the HuskyCareerLink calendar.
Mock Interviews:
- Career Services offers students the chance to practice their interviewing skills in preparation for the "real thing." The Mock Interview Program is available for students to simulate an actual interview situation with one of our trained Career Resource Assistants. For more information on how to sign-up for a mock interview, come in or call Career Services.

Policies for Interviewing On-Campus
Career Services expects that all students participating in on campus interviews will conduct themselves professionally and act in good faith during the interview process. The following policies and procedures have been put into place to insure the integrity of the program for all students and for our recruiting employers:
Applying for Jobs:
- UConn appreciates the employers who take the time to come to campus and offer interviewing opportunities for our students and alumni. As a participant in the interviewing program, you need to make responsible decisions. Make sure to read job descriptions thoroughly and research potential employers. Submit resumes for positions and companies in which you are truly interested. If selected to interview, you are expected to sign up and interview.
Changes to Your Interview Time:
- HuskyCareerLink does not allow individuals to change interview times if your initial selection does not meet your needs. As such, we encourage you to choose your interview time carefully the first time. Other students will make their decisions based on your selection, and employers will plan their visit according to the selections you and other candidates make throughout the interview sign-up period. If you need to change your interview time, please call Career Services at 486-3013 or email recruiting@uconn.edu as soon as possible.
Cancellations:
- Candidates are expected to honor all commitments and attend all scheduled interviews.
- Cancellations are prohibited without sufficient notice provided to both the Career Services Office and the employer.
- If extenuating circumstances present the need for a student to cancel his/her on-campus interview, notice of cancellation must be given as soon as possible so the employer can be notified.
- Students needing to cancel an interview may call Career Services at 486-3013 or email recruiting@uconn.edu. Notice of cancellation must include 1) student’s name, 2) name of employer, 3) time of scheduled interview, and 4) reason for canceling.
- A first-time cancellation will be documented in the student’s HuskyCareerLink account.
- Subsequent cancellations will result in the suspension of a student’s access to HuskyCareerLink until he/she has met with the Recruiting Manager, and a determination is made that there were acceptable reasons for canceling.
- Interviews not cancelled will be considered “no show”.
No Show Policy
- Candidates are expected to honor all commitments and attend all scheduled interviews.
- Failure to honor an interview appointment is considered to be a serious breach of ethics and professionalism.
- Students who fail to provide advance notice or who do not show up for an interview will be assessed a $15 fee, charged to their student fee bill. A letter of apology, including an explanation of why the interview appointment was not kept, must also be submitted to the employer. Access to HuskyCareerLink will be suspended until the letter is sent.
- Subsequent no-shows will result in a $15 fee AND suspension of the student’s participation in the program indefinitely. A letter of apology to the employer will also be required.
Offer Policy:
- Students should not accept an offer of employment if they intend to continue interviewing.
- Once an offer of employment is accepted, the student has agreed to work for that specific organization, and all previously scheduled interviews must be cancelled. Candidates are no longer eligible to apply for positions.
- If you receive an offer and would like assistance evaluating that offer, we encourage you to seek the help of a Career Consultant.
